Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

A few weeks ago I finally had the chance of checking out Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Its one of those things that all New Yorkers say they want to do, yet very few actually venture into Brooklyn to actually do. Let me tell you, its well worth the trip! Probably one of the most relaxing places you can find in this city. You can lie on the lawn or scope out the beautiful flowers. A perfect day out!

WD-50

Last weekend we had the pleasure of checking out WD-50. Wylie Dufresne's Molecular Gastronomy restaurant in NYC. It was interesting to say the least. We opted for the tasting menu which consisted of 11 courses, some of which were a hit (chocolate beet ice cream) and some of which were a total miss (fois gras). All in all it was an eclectic experience, if you want to spend the evening analyzing strange food combinations and presentation, this is the place for you. Would I recommend the food in itself...maybe not. Above you will find the Poached Egg in Edible Shell, King Oyster Udon Sweetbreads, Lamb loin, Chocolate Beet Ice cream, Chocolate packets with Rice Krispies Treats, and last but not least the beautiful kitchen that we got a tour of after the meal.

I recently discovered photographer Eric Lafforgue's work one day when searching for a portrait photographer. He travels all over the world and captures portraits of natives. The ones that particularly stood out to me were the photos of tribal Papua New Guinea. I find it so fascinating to look at the colors and accessories people use to decorate their bodies. One of my co-workers brought in their dog for the first time today, and it's official... I'm in love.

Happy Easter, just wanted to share how we spent our lovely Easter day. Our friends Mark and Daria prepared a delicious lunch complete with rooftop champagne, painted eggs, and an adorable mischievous cat Milo. Thanks guys!

iPhone Photo Exhibition

Reason number #120398 that I want an iPhone. These are some shots from an online exhibition called Pixels displaying only photos that were taken and manipulated on the iPhone. It's incredible that technology has brought us to a point where you can take such fantastic artistic shots with just a phone. Obviously I think that a lot of these shots use pre-made filters, but the results are impressive. The only thing I don't love about this revelation is that now anyone with a phone can be a "photographer", sadly I believe it dilutes the art a little bit. But let's be honest, once I finally get one, I'm gonna take full advantage of that camera too.

Happy almost-summer people! First iced latte of the year...I'm secretly praying that switching from hot to iced drinks will stimulate the warm weather to finally arrive.

Why I Love New York Today

When after a long day's work (dreading the smelly subway ride home) you get underground and discover this, you just know you're living in a magical city. Lo and behold, the station was filled with the sound of a live band playing and couples doing the foxtrot, salsa and ballroom as commuters pushed through the human traffic to get to their trains.
